WordPress has revolutionised web development as we know it with its Gutenberg editor!
Aptly named Gutenberg after Johann Von Gutenberg, who developed the block printing press way back when this future-focussed web development tool allows you to build visually appealing pages comprised of blocks. While it’s still in its development phase, Gutenberg is sure to bring style and simplicity to WordPress publishing. As professional website developers in Cork, we are very glad to see the latest Guttenberg developments.
This is just the first step that WordPress is taking to make the interface better for users. This effort to accommodate easier development will be followed up with fresh new templates to overhaul the look and feel of a website. WordPress also plan to roll out a new customizer over the course of the next year.
What WordPress Have To Say
- ‘Gutenberg is more than just an editor. While the editor is the focus right now, the project will ultimately impact the entire publishing experience including customization (the next focus area).’ This is only the beginning!
The Advantages Of Using Gutenberg
Ease
The beauty of Gutenberg lies in its ease of use.
Blocks can be easily filled with paragraphs, galleries, code, headings, buttons, quotes and embedded content such as video.
This instantly creates a nicer layout, with the option to insert text columns, lists and headers along with dividers, to create a stunning and varied layout.
Integrated SEO
Gutenberg is designed in such a way that SEO happens organically as you create, configuring layouts and fonts as you go.
Time-Saving
One of the main advantages of Gutenberg is that blocks can also be saved to be reused in other posts, which is incredibly time-saving.
You can save blocks and insert them wherever necessary, reducing the time spent copying and pasting text body and allowing you to use your time more efficiently.
Visual Appeal
Blocks can also be easily interchanged and moved quickly and easily. All blocks can be repeated more than once if necessary, so two or more quotes, paragraphs and so on can be inserted. Images are also drag and drop, which makes creating beautifully laid-out blog posts a lot simpler than it has been previously before.
You can still use the html editor. This can be accessed in settings by clicking on the three dots, so if you’d like to insert or alter any code in your post, you can.
What We Think
Gutenberg is, undoubtedly, a step in a whole other direction to what we’ve grown accustomed to. However, WordPress has assured us that the existing functionality-such as shortcode and meta-boxes will still work in the interim, while more effective transitions are in the process of being built.
New plug-in ideas are also being looked at by the huge community of developers, who are all contributing to this project. Their aim is to make Gutenberg the best WordPress editor yet! We have no doubt that they will succeed, in fact, we feel they already have!
